INDEPENDENCE DAY

I heard one of the TV talking heds say recently that there are plenty of jobs going begging from lack of skills, education, etc. I assume he or she meant in the US. If that's truly the case, that's probably a big part of the weak economic growth because those jobs are in high tech stuff that creates better economic efficiencies and new businesses, even new industries. And our high unemployment is a lot from all the factory and other low-skill, non-educated jobs that have moved overseas or otherwise been eliminated, especially in construction because a lot less is being built. But a lot of it is the failure of our education system and all the street thug drop out culture promoted by hip hop and all the carap fed our kids. OK, I may be somewhat foggy on all this, but, man, do we have a hard row to hoe. And have you made this connection yet: 12 million illegal aliens and 15 million out of work. I'm thinking we need New Deal kinds of work programs to get people back to work and paying taxes. Drastic I guess. But I think it's that bad. Or we're going to have so large an underground economy that our future will not be better than our past. And I don't like having to say things like this.

Today is a day for thinking we can do what no one thinks we can do. Our founding fathers and mothers started up today against the Brits, the greatest military power since Rome or Alexander or God and Joshua and David. Our revolutionary patriots seemed to have God on their side. So, let's not lose that divine providence. Let's get our country going well again. We can't live on we're the ones who won WW2 anymore. Almost all of those heroes are gone. We're the ones who fought to a draw in Korea, lost Vietnam, went to the Moon, had hostages in Iran, started a come back in Granada, shot down Libyan Migs, left Lebanon in defeat, won the Cold War, grabbed Noriega, kicked Iraq out of Kuwait, got Blackhawk downed in Somalia, liberated Muslims in the Balkans from genocide and war and now still fight this 9-year-old war. We ache for peace again.

Our economics were dam good in the late 90's. And then an election decided by the Supreme Court gave us a president and Congress that cut taxes for the rich and screwed up getting our country back to the black. Now, after all the war and medapill and at least 2 new huge bureaucracies all unpaid for, too-low interest rates too long, financial deregulation and a housing boom on crack with ninja loans, here we are. O yea, and Obamacare. We all know we need a big dam change but we also know with elections coming up there's no fat chance in hell until next year for anything much to happen. So. We just have to hang in and wait it out. While we tread our own courses as best we can.

But I still think a drive for clean energy on the scope of the Apollo Moon program is an immediate answer. And today would be a great day for the President to propose it.

Pleasant Independence Day to ye pards. Onward and upward.
