Mobile commerce estimated to grow to near $400B/y by '15. Internet commerce now ~$174B/y. Hm. Out of Peapod in '89. Text commerce also being developed. All untaxed?

GE applying MRI superconducting magnet tech to scale up to 10-15MW wind turbines. 2-yr $3M DOE project to dev next gen turbine generators. Aiming to dub torque density and reduce dependence on rare earth minerals. Oak Ridge a podner.

Standard and Poors rates subprime mortgages higher than the USA now. O yea, the devil.

Portugal cranked up their debt reduction efforts.

Solyndra. California solar. Rows of thin-film solar cells in aluminum cylinders tech they now want to sell? Bankrupt. Laid off >1K people. Were hoping for IPO. Said China and the global solar market beat them. Wah. O, the DOE loan guarantee. Now we are out $535M. To Obama backers. This is not going to sound well on the campaign trail for how long. What a difference a day can make, A?

Mikey Bloomberg went to GenOn Energy's coal-fired electricity plant in Alexandria VA last month - 1st I red about it - to announce a $50M grant from his foundation to Sierra Club's "Beyond Coal Campaign" to close such plants nationwide. Mike for Prez? He's as small as Putin. Or Napoleon? But way to go Mike.

Dow up 52. Naz flat. S&P up 6. Very odd. So. Prepare for a fall back. Just a feeling. Very odd is UBRG down 5% after reporting $20M more revenues in the future. NENE also down 5%, backing off that 200-day line. BWEN too down 5%. Back to their bottom.

Solydra the big nuze. Despite the $535M DOE loan guarantee in late '09 (to an Obama backer). Over 1k jobs gone. More later.

O, UBRG now back up 3%. WEST up 5%. That after hours downer last night must have been an insider trade. Huh.

ASYS falling below $11 again. I don't get it.

STUFF

Next Era Energy subsid Genesis Solar closed on $700M bonds, $150M loan and $83M letter of credit to build 250MW concentrating solar thermal plant using parabolic troughs in S. Cal. DOE loan guarantee of 80%. That makes almost $6B for CST of total $40B in DOE guarantees. Which costs DOE nothing if all the projects are righteous. Carrying the money at these interest rates also is nominal. Energy policy you say? It's happening. Chu is maybe the best energy secretary we've ever had.

GTAT bought Confluence Solar for $60M plus. Equipment to make monocrystalline silicon ingots (for solar) @ lower costs. They will be the only supplier in the market for some time. They expect it to generate $3-400M/y in revs. GTAT already sells equip to make multicrystalline ingots. GTAT $1+ above their 200-day lines, up another 1% today.

LSCG/Dixon's $15 60W LED to cut price in half. Will 1st appear in India by year-end. Global next year. Consumes even less power than old $30 bulb. 8.5w. Cutting down amount of LED's in the bulb and better use of heat sinks. LSCG also developing bulb w/ Google to be controlled thru Android. LSCG stilll up 4% today.

Construction begun on $208M carbon capture/storage project @ ADM's ethanol plant in Decatur. DOE says it should capture 1M tons CO2/y. Online in '13. Partly funded by govt's $144M. Hm. I guess here we actually put up money. Not just a loan guarantee. Maybe ADM has a strong lobbyist.

STUFF

After listening to all the talking heads this morn I came away with Santorum's idea. Cut corporate tax to zero for any company that builds a new manufacturing plant in the USA and keeps all their manufacturing jobs here or however it's worded. We might have to promise it for 10 years - like everything else these days - or the life of the plant. But it would make a big statement around the world. We want our jobs back. Really. There would be plenty of construction jobs for the new plants. And we should couple in job training a la military training schools so the manufacturers know they will have a good workforce. And we ought to figure out tax wise how to let our corps get their money back here that they're holding overseas. And in the paper this morn even P&G is now looking at moving money and jobs overseas. It has to stop. And I bet such a change would be a net tax gain.

Happy motoring, pards.

Philly Fed factory activity index dropped to lowest since March '09. Do that math.

N. Sudan wants S. Sudan to pay $32/bl - triple the going rate - to transport the south's oil to port. China working with N. Sudan. South talking with Japan on building new pipe through Kenya to Indian Ocean port. South controls 80% of Sudan's 7B bls, 490kb/d production. New pipe would cost ~$1.5B. Kenya already spending $4B to upgrade the port and corridor to S. Sudan. Uganda also building a refinery near their 2B bl find at Lake Albert. East Africa, pards.

China rare earth metals prices up 200%+ already this year, some even up to 1000%. It's slowed China's wind industry (37% growth in '10). Their production capacity to reach 29GW this year. Demand expected at 15-18GW.

Perry: global warming a 'theory not proven'. From the governor of a state broiling in heat and drying up this summer. He doesn't want all that money spent on 'theory'.

Bachmann: I promise you $2 gas again. Ok, HOW. Last time we had under $2 was the global economic crisis.

Syria exports 120kb/d of oil. US wants the world to stop buying it.

STUFF

Why have atmospheric methane levels abruptly leveled off, stabilized in last 3 decades? Two U Cal Irvine teams published findings in "Nature". 1 answer that NG became a more valuable commodity in the '80's and more actively captured as drilling byproduct. Answer 2 Asia switched to inorganic fertilizers from organic and drained rice paddies midseason to save water. But neither theory explains why methane is again on the rise since '06. I wonder if it's tundra thawing. Or maybe we're just fartin more. Or, really, the fracking.

STUFF

One reason for the volatility the past week is Pension Financial - largest indy provider of clearing and settlement services around the world (ever hear of them?) - increased its margin requirements on options 100%. Chicago Mercantile Exchange recently hiked gold margins for 2nd time this year and increased silver margins 7 times in '11. Belgium joined France, Italy, Spain and Greece in banning short selling. Its a lot harder to play the game when the rules can change at any time.

Global hydropower industry at $56B this year.

Historically, at stock market bottoms you can pick up the 30 bluest stocks for 1-2 oz of gold. Today it's some over 6 oz.

China reported higher-than-expected growth in July. Trade surplus of $31B v. $22B in June. Exports up 20% v. July '10 @ $175B. Imports up 3% to $144B (up 19% in June). O yea, and they've launched their first aircraft carrier.

US business 2Q profits came in @ annual rate of $1.66T, highest in 60 years (since gov started keeping track). Add that to their over $2T in cash. And, again, I'm going to say this. 10M $30K/Y jobs would cost $300B. Or make it all 15M for $450B. Doesn't it seem we have a stingy business community? Or is it just politics?

Trails, pards.

FRIDAY CLOSE

(stock #'s in %)

Market up 125/15/6. Weighted heavily toward Dow. Volume still very heavy but way off past pace. Oil around $85. Pump prices should be starting down this coming week. Funny how they go up immediately, it seems, when oil goes up. Ha.

AMSC up 12. About a 30% 2-day gain after announcing major layoffs. I wouldn't expect any more, though. They need new customers. Why doesn't superconducting cable get used more?

AONE was off 9 with that Goldman downgrade. But they got the GM contract for future EVs (not the Volt). If the market takes them back to anywhere near the $3 area, I surely recommend it.

ASYS ended down ten cents which surprised me. Tuesday they reported FQ3: record revs up 67%, EPS up 76%, expect full-year guidance to be achieved (revs up 100%) even though quarter orders were down 80% from previous quarter which is the apparent reason for the huge selloff Wednesday. Way overdone. And they're at their 3-year "200-day" lines besides extremely low P/B, P/S, P/E numbers. Still own it, still recommend. Also, they're developing solar ion implant tech for future revs.

BFRE was up 18. BLQN was down 13. Still gone from 2 cent low to now 69 after hitting $1.90. Incredible. BWEN still one of the few without a rebound this past week. Wind power equipment. Keep an eye on them. Even Kramer the Crazy was hawking them back when their stock was peaking.

CCGI was down 20. From $62 now below $2. Talk about fall from grace. CLNO down 30 on nominal volume. CSKH up 16. CSOL up 34. DSTI up 13. Up 50% off their bottom. EFOI was flat. Definitely buy any dips. And buy them here.

ESLR up 10. Someone know something we don't? EVCA up 24. Chinese solars - CSIQ, HSOL, JASO - were down except for CSUN, which had the best bounce off the bottom of the 4. LTBR up 15. NGBF up 20. NPWZ up 11. PSPW up 18. PSUD up 46. SATC down 6. SOPW up 17. SPIR up 22. Finally had a little profit last Q. Rediculously low P/S ratio. UBRG's is lower.

URXE was up 50. A no-revenue geothermal, projects in Peru, Nevada. VNDB up 25. VSPC down 14. WBRE up 14. WEST was flat. Expecting a move up. WNEA down 28. WPNV up 58. Several wind projects. ZOLT up 8.

WPNV up 58. PSUD up 46. SPIR up 27. EVCA up 21. BFRE up 18. KNDI, QTMM up 15. AMSC, VNDB up 12. MKTY up 10 after reporting a small profit for 1H. WEST up 3.

GRHU down 15. AONE down 10 after downgrade plus yesterday's surge. AEBF still falling off, down 9. SATC down 6. BWEN still on their bottom. EFOI down 3, still stuck around 45 cents. ASYS basing at flatville.

And we may get a sell off this aft from jitters. Just before close could be some deals if you think Monday will be OK. I still think we're headed back to 10k Dow, but not to say there can't be some little rally off the plunge of the last 2 weeks. Unless this is it. Mentioned  ENOC testing their lows this morn. Now up way over 10% I'd say now. Mentioned AONE early. Up 47% now. And told you days ago I was sticking me neck out on them under $3. So. Just saying. I try my darnedest to give you heads up on the best picks I see. Sometimes it's quick trades. Sometimes a long-term dealio.
Anyway, now you might buy WEST for short or long term.  And of course I must hawk ASYS which I said I was sticking my head out on last eve.

Onward and upward, pards.

STUFF

VC's invested $560M in greentech in July. Greentech is not just green energy. There are terms to learn. Clean energy is no GHG emissions from power production. Renewable energy is an energy source that is sustainable. Greentech is anything that reduces GHG emissions and/or recycles materials. As far as I understand things. There's a lot of sloppy usage of these terms in reporting.

Marcellus shale NG production last year averaged 1.3BCF/d. At start of '11 it was ~2B. Next 8 yrs, should jump to 17.5B. OK. Look at that. 2B to 17B in 8 years. Should NG price stay stable? And cheap? Seems so, huh. But when can we count on any prices staying the same. With power production turning to gas and some transportation turning to gas and other countries upping their demand, I think prices will be going up.

Greece has already banned short selling. Now France and Italy. OK. That's the market thingy. Eurozone GDP ~$16T/y. Beats USA.

Monsanto to develop drought-resistant corn. About time or just in time. Of course, they will soon then control seed corn market like they do soybeans and other. If they don't already.

Buick's 1st hybrid hit the roads. Wouldn't we rather have a Buick. We had a '56 Buick in the Philippines in '70. The 8 exhaust holes in the hood. Stories. Like the gas station attendant blowing up the Buick's battery with a backwards charge. Fortunately we weren't too close to the car.

Cisco getting out of building/home management. The latest trend.

EU behind on its clean E targets. Could be the financial probs huh?

US Army created a Renewables Office. Targeting 25% renewable power by '25. $7B investment over next 10 years. First sentence in one article was "The Army has gone socialist". O grow up. What the heck is socialist about clean energy?

FRIDAY CLOSE

(stock #'s in %)

S&P downgrade of USA. Hm. From the folks who could have been indicted along with the others for the financial fraud and crisis late last decade. I just write it off as more of the GOP fight to get back all the political power. And lets put the cards on the table. Some people just don't like Democrat presidents, let alone a half black one.

And I still cry hay, in '00 when the GOP was handed America we were paying down the $5T debt which may have been actually paid off by now. But who am I to know if this is just part of revelation eschatology or just stretching the boundaries of what we can do with the concept of money.

The jobs report helped Friday's recovery. The govt actually closely matched ADP's this time. Though the market finished mixed. Dow up 60, Naz down 23 because high tech is dragging us down, huh, and S&P was flat. But yay, thanks be to God and GOP for the Dow strength. Hell, Apple alone has more cash on hand than the United States of America.

In a way, this all tells me we're going further down next week. But I hope I'm wrong. None of us wants to fight the trend. If down we have to go then let's the heck get there now. So we can start back up again.

Volume was more than double normal. Either everybody's selling out or it's a turn back up.

September Oil settled in at under $88.

And then there are now our SEALS and pilots and crew from Afghanistan to bury. While Syria continues killing their own people. Let alone Libya. O yea, Libya. Where is all that? I understand Kadaffy's son was killed in one recent bomb attack. God what a world we have to do business in every business day. How about getting water and food into the famine of Somalia/Kenya. Let's all try to care a little more, A? That's amore. When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie.

O yea, the stocks. Clean energy money.

I guess we had a feeling it was coming ... you know how much the market fell. No need for me to tell ye. Volume was double normal. Double. Who knows how low we're going or how fast or slow. Oil under $87. Let's see how many weeks it takes to hit the gas pumps. NG even back under $4.

Clean energy stocks are some of the street's favorite whipping boys. Solars were pummelled. STRI lowered their guidance. Down 20. FSLR missed on revs and EPS. Down 9 after hours. Even SOLR, after announcing $55M order yesterday with new customer and today reporting Q with 273% rev gain, 71% EPS gain and $2B record backlog, was down 9.

WPNV up 56. WBRE up 55. CBWP up 25. BFRE up 22. Just showing off. AEBF up another 31. That's one to check out.

NGBF down 39. EMKR down 27, up a little after hours. EVCA down 24. VLNC down 20 after hours. RBCN down 19 after hours after reporting Q. ASTI, LEXG, ECOS down 17. EFOI down 16 after up 50 yesterday on contract news. ENER down 16. HSOL, HYGS down 14. LSCG, QTWW down 13.  COMV, BLDP, AMLM down 12. Down 11: CSIQ, AMSC, PLUG, RSOL, URRE. Down 10: SATC, ABAT, UBRG. AONE down 8. JASO down 7.

Too many new lows to list. AEBF the only new high. I'm going to watch SOLR and EFOI for possible gains soon. SOLR is almost back to their 200-day lines which has been holding. And that was a big contract for EFOI. There are others to watch but I'll save the mentions for another day.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Keep sending in your thoughts. I love hearing from ye.
