WEDNESDAY CLOSE

(stock #'s in %)

Market up 490/104/51. Volume heavy. Oil finished up over $101. Definitely a recessionary level. But O how the world loved the central banks working together. G, all of a sudden we can all get along. But hay, maybe blessings from God. Dow above their top 200-day line again, Naz just below the top 200-day line. I didn't check the S&P. I get tired out too. Or forget. O hell, I'm frackin lazy. There. You got the skinny.

MGLT up 98. Cool, huh? ZOLT up 35. VNDB up 25. ASPW up 22. HSOL up 21. JASO up 18. CSIQ, QTWW up 15. XIDE up 14. RBCN, QTMM up 11. AONE, AMEL, SOPW up 10.

ABAT down 57. PTOS down 22. PPRW down 21. IFXY down 16. HOKU, EFOI down 14. Is HOKU going under? XSNX, CPWY down 12. Ditto XSNX? Or will their tech be bought? BIOF down 10. Hitting their lines. BFRE down 9. NENE down 8. Going under or buy candidate? LSCG down 6. Still going down. BWEN down 5. CSUN down 2 more, the only Chinese solar down. Are they going under?

So the market has come roaring back. Do we believe it or not? Is this just manipulation from all the central banks in the world? Or is it real economics? Job growth in US is just Christmas jobs. Probably. Well, enjoy it if you made some money today. For that's what it's about. Besides clean energy. Or at least cleaner energy. Or even less US reliance on foreign oil, let alone OPEC.

Happy trails, pards.

STUFF

ESLR(Q) sold its tech for $6M plus 7.6M shares of buyer - China Private Equity Investment Holdings. Tech was developed at MIT. O. That's where Romney got his first name. Maybe not.

AMRS expanding R&D partnership with Total. Also formed joint venture to produce renewable fuels.

Solar City's plans to install solar panels on top of >100k military housing units was revived with Bank of America commitment to lend $350M. Remember, the DOE loan guarantee wasn't granted.

DOE, by the by, was created in the '70's to get the US off of foreign oil. OPEC oil, more exactly. What a job done so far, huh? Yet DOE researches and finances clean E electricity sources that have nothing to do with oil. Of course, it was fighting the peak of US oil production I think it was in '70? But. US now close to becoming a net fuel exporter with LNG and biofuels potential, let alone our new oil and NG production from fracking and deepwater offshore. Despite even the petering out of Alaskan production.

Massachusetts' effort to close Plymouth coastal nuke reactor because of Fukushima denied by NRC. Odd thing is they actually could get a tsunami when that piece of the Canary Islands falls into the Atlantic after a major earthquake. Or is that just an old wives tale? Vermont also tried to shut down Vermont Yankee reactors - also owned by Entergy. Also denied. I'm sorry here, but nuke energy is clean energy and 24-hour energy. And I like clean energy. But there's nothing wrong with getting the safest nuke energy we can. Thorium. Hello. (LTBR).

Archbishop Tutu challenging Canada to set example for world by addressing GHG emissions and climate change and stop supporting their oil and NG industry (oil sands). Yea. Really. Take care of Africa first, Bishop. Start with South Africa.

AONE cutting 125 workers in Mich. AMSC also cutting jobs.

US seen as roadblock in S. Africa climate talks. As developing nations push for extension of Kyoto '97 agreements. What's new. Qatar to host '12 talks.

And in Laos, a Vietnamese company started work on a $100M sugarcane ethanol plant.

Happy trails, pards.

STUFFS

Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The leftovers almost gone. Not much news. Let alone explicitly let out.

EPA finalized amendments to GHG rule, granted 6-month extension. Is that the coal plant rule?

Anadarko doubled their estimate of Mazambique NG discovery. Yesterday's nuze. But not bad news.

A brand new ND coal plant shuttered. Huh. Good news - no new coal plant online - except for the money spent on the plant. But reserve power. And there is coal very close by. And ND is awash in Bakken oil money anyway.

US biodiesel production already set new record for '11. >802M gal. >2x '10 production of ~315M gal. Broke previous record of 690M gal in '09. But. Reinstated fed tax incentive due to expire end of this year. Without incentive in '10, production dropped hard, jobs were lost. This year $3B more GDP, 18k more jobs, $628M more in fed, state, local taxes. And exports.

That's the stuff I found today. O but there's brother Cain's presidential bid going down in paying off women who had issues with his sex. What else, Iran seized Britain's embassy in Tehran. Echo of '79. Lebanon fired missiles into Israel. Just another usual day in these times. Oy.

Happy trails.

IF US citizens will start paying attention to buying US products we could maintain our world leadership. Let alone create jobs. Buy American. Look at the labels. Look at the back of the tab. Look wherever at whatever you have to. But let's buy American.

STUFF

Stuffed, actually, from Thanksgiving dinner and leftovers. Hope your reflux isn't too bad. O yea, on to stuff.

Electric from clean E and renewables got $187B worldwide last year, topping $157B for NG, oil and coal. $66B in subsidies for clean E/renewables. But financial austerity measures in at least 10 countries will cut spending in "green" by $45B through '15. Check that out I guess.

The only American-owned company capable of enriching Uranium asking US govt for help to modernize its plant and stay in biz. USEC has a plant in Paducah (Kentucky) using '40's tech. And they have an old site with a shuttered plant in Piketon, OH. They want to build a new one there and use giant centrifuges. Centrifuges use ~95% less el than old tech. They want $2B loan guarantee. American utilities have been discussing signing supply contracts directly with Russia. Huh. What do you think about this? 500-word essay please. Yea, if I were a professor at YNOT University.

Sauds announced they're halting their $100B oil expansion program, saying the requirement to increase production has "substantially reduced" in face of emerging new oil and gas supplies.

Sundrop Fuels announced $450M biofuels project in Louisiana using forest waste and hydrogen from NG. Plant will make 50M gal/y of gasoline adaptable to existing pumps, pipelines, engines and infrastructure. Online '14.

On airplanes there's a cock to drain the fuel out of the bottom of the fuel tank to get the water out. Maybe we now need that in boats and cars and trucks. With ethanol and biofuels. Just wondering, pards. Wonderin. Wonder what's coming next. Brought to mind a couple stories but one was not so funny.

Well, I trust you all had a good Thanksgiving. And enough anti acid.

Happier trails, pards. Onward and upward.

Last time they let it lapse installs dropped over 73%. Over last 6 years US production of wind turbine components grew 12x to >400 facilities in 43 states. Shifted manufacturing jobs from overseas back to US.

Direct outlays to producers or consumers - $14.3B
Tax breaks/incentives - $16.3B
R&D - $4.4B
Loans, loan guarantees - $1.6B
El programs (TVA, Bonneville, etc) - $.6B
Total >$37B. ~$21B went to el production; $16B to el transmission/distribution, conservation/efficiency and auto programs. 2/3 went to non-hydro renewables and clean E. The rest to fossil.

Chile, Australia dominating lithium production. New tech can extract lith from brine that geothermal plants inject into ground after the steam is produced. And at lower cost than lowest Chilean production ($1,500/ton). USGS analysts have suggested battery-grade lithium worth $5-6k/ton. Symbol Materials the comp to look at (they also extract manganese and zinc). Itochu (I taught chu) took 20% stake last year.

Chia Obama. On store shelves near you. Kid you not.

China issued white paper before UN climate soiree in S. Africa. Said poorer countries accounted for 57% of emission reductions ( no time period reported). China says they achieved 20% redux in C emissions from '05-'10. Plan to cut 17% more by '15. Measured in per unit of GDP. Also said that despite financial crisis, rich countries should still try to contribute to $100B fund to help poorer countries finance energy efficiency improvements. Well, with a $2T cash stash, I guess they have some opinion to wield.

STUFF

Chevron said a mistake of calculating oil pressure caused the oil spill off Brazil coast. "Deposit pressure underestimated". Isn't that what happened in the GOM with BP? Well, besides faulty, hurried construction. Chevron leak fully contained, but slick reached 882 bls reportedly. On migratory route for whales, dolphins. Slick moving away from shore. Well, Rio won't be slicked. Greenpeace says satellite pics show "spill 10x bigger than stated." What's new.

World Meteorological Organization: GHG's hit record level in '10. CO2 now 389 PPM (parts per million), up from 280 in 1750. Yep, 1750. The year. Who measured CO2 PPM in 1750? There's a who wants be a millionaire question huh? UN climate conference opens up next week in S. Africa. 450 PPM is the point of no return they say. But 350 the first danger point already behind us. '10 was 23 PPM higher than '09. Avg. increase in '90's was 1.5/yr. Since 1750, CO2 concentration up 39%, NOX up 20%, Methane up 158%. Fossil fuel burning, loss of forests, use of fertilizer the main culprits.

STUFF

An average 23 manufacturing facilities were shut down in the US every day last year. Average of 15/day over last 10 years. Since '01, over 56k facilities lost. Since '76, US has run up a $7.5T trade deficit. In '79, there were 19.5M manufacturing jobs in the US. Now 11.6M. US has lost average 50k manufacturing jobs/month since China joined the WTO in '01. The new World Trade Center tower will be made with glass from China and steel from Germany. In '08, 1.2B cellphones were sold worldwide. None made in US. I think we need a zero fed tax on manufacturing for at least ten years. I wish the President would propose it. I can't imagine a Republican being against it. But the Dems might stop it for some dam reason. And so it goes.

UK moves to abruptly slash feed-in tariffs for smaller and rooftop solar installs coming under increasing pressure as opposition gets more organized.

USDA awarded >$8M to 4 hydropower projects in CT, OR, UT and VT under Rural Energy for America Program. USDA also halted sales of mineral leases in OH's Wayne National Forest. Sets Utica shale development back a year for another fracking analysis. Could have created 200k jobs next 3 years and provided OH with $500M in revenue. If fracking poisons water supply, absolutely stop it, yes. But so far I understand the fracking takes place BELOW the aquifers. But, of course, better safe than sorry.

Senators have intro'd bills to provide additional $5B of tax credits for US manufacture of clean energy tech and 20% investment tax credit up to $40M for energy storage systems connected to grid, 30% ITC of up to $1M for on-site storage.
