STUFF

~1/2 of Oslo, most of its schools heated, powered by burning garbage. Now they have to import Europe garbage. Thinking about importing US garbage - shipping that cheap. Garbage for heat/power has exploded across N Europe in recent decades. Demand for trash far outstrips supply. 150M tons/yr generated in region, incinerators can handle over 700M tons. Sweden, Austria, Germany building more plants. Oslo households separate garbage. Foodwaste, plastics, glass, etc. in separately colored bags. Bags handed out free by stores. (Why can't US do that? Fossil fuel industry, chem industry, etc. O yea, and citizen apathy. I remember Cincinnati had an incinerator. But it was shut down in what, early '60's? Of course, then nothing was separated in trash so toxic chemicals were released in the inclusive trash burn. Also, Europe doesn't have the expanse of land that US does. So US just piled hills of trash up somewhere, though now getting methane out of it in places.)

IN RESPECT

In respect, no market close report tonight in light of boston marathon massacre.

Not as deadly as original Boston massacre. But maybe just as heartfelt. And the simultaneous "electrical fire" at JFK Museum? 50 years of "his head went back and to the left" not a conspiracy. Yea, right.

Who knows. Follow the money. Hell, follow the politics. Founders day marathon in N Korea today. Follow any leads. Let's put all the insane violent people in confined treatment. Yea, and how much will that cost us? Less than all the new security that makes nothing tangible to sell and buy? Bad tracks, folks. Just bad tracks.

Let's try something new. Let's find something new. Let's do something new. And let's not run another marathon until we have answers. Or let's start 100 more. What the hell is the answer?

AND

And Boston. 2 bombs at end of marathon. How much more expenditure on security now everywhere? Is this another industry gone bubble? Or do we have to just pony up more money for protection to do what we want to do? Peacefully.

Brings tears to the eyes still. Still brings tears to my eyes.

And the injured and coming prosthetics and recovery. The shock. The therapy. The residual suicides or mass murders.

What do we have to change?

We have to change something.

I was just changing channel from Charley Rose to Doctor Oz and finishing up STUFF.

What do we have to change now?

Time to com with fam and friend. Again.

GRAPHENE REPORT

Graphene a 1-atom thick sheet of carbon in hexagonic crystal lattice. 200x stronger than steel. Tougher than diamond. World's thinnest material. Flexible, transparent. Conducts el, heat very well. 1st made in '04. Stocks: AIXG, CVV, FCSMF, NGPHF, GTI, CHGI, PKX.

MI5 warning UK Universities that graphene, quantum computing research are targets of cyber attacks. (Why can't folks/govts just do the work honestly? Honestly.)

Researchers at U of Brit Columbia discovered magnetic defects may be cause of graphene's slow electron spin relaxation time (up to 1Kx lower than predicted). Not spin-orbit effect.

Make graphene oxide at home. Sulfuric acid, phosporic acid, add powdered graphite and stir. Add permanganate and stir 3 days. Then isolate graphene oxide. Good luck.

Ohio State U researchers created 1-atom thick sheet of germanium. "Germanane." Conducts electrons over 10x faster than silicon, 5x faster than germanium. May enable some benefits of graphene, other new materials at lower costs. Created multi-layered germanium crystals. Calcium atoms wedged between layers. Calcium dissolved with water, empty chem bonds "plugged" with H, then peeled off single germanane sheets. H atoms make sheets very chem stable, even more than silicon. Won't oxidize in air or water.

Bluestone Global Tech's CEO says graphene-based touch panels by 3Q13. Comp makes graphene on several substrates.

XG Sciences launched new high capacity graphene-based anode materials for lith ion batts. 4x capacity of present anodes. Use xGnP graphene nanoplatelets to stabillize silicon particles in nano-engineered composite structure. Comp has proprietary manufacturing processes.

Graphene Labs signed 2-yr strategic alliance with Lomiko Metals (Canada). GL has already sold product to over 4K customers including Ford, Samsung, Sony, US Army, NASA.

Tsinghua U (Beijing) researchers created nacre (mother of pearl) material stronger than natural nacre. Used hydrogel from graphene and fibroin (a silk protein). Solution coated it, dried it to create parallel graphene plates bound with fibroid that self-assembled into "brickwork" structure.

China's Zhejiang U's graphene aerogel (freeze-dried carbon and graphene oxide) can be used as conductive scaffolds for neural stem cells. Korean researchers have discovered graphene sheets better than glass for neural stem cell growth. Graphene foams coated with laminin (or other matrix proteins). Could serve as compatible neural housing and as means to control tenants electrically.

Peking U researchers found graphene silicon solar cells can be made more efficiently by coating with anti-reflective layer. They use titanium dioxide. Got 14.6% efficiency.

ORNL researchers documented silicon 6-atom clusters "dancing" on graphene sheet. Used scanning transmission electron microscope. Trapped silicon in pores in graphene sheet.

Fed law, Montana PSC rules say utilities must accept contracts to buy el from 10Mw wind farms or smaller. Their el demand ~725Mw. 30Mw from small wind projects now under contract. Another 20Mw coming. NWE pays avg $60/Mwh for its power. Pays $67 for wind power. Going to $50 for new contracts. 120-130Mw more wind proposed would force NWE to shop for other power to fill power gaps, they say. They bought their own 40Mw wind farm last year.
