LET'S THINK ABOUT IT ... I tried getting exact number of how many Americans have died in combat. I counted 12 major wars from Revolutionary. Many "little" wars, actions, "operations". I'm working on it, but the total in first 100 years was 683,000 dead. (We know that's rounded off.) 2nd 100 years 626,000. (Also rounded.) Since 1976, 8,959. 8,245 to this month in Afghan, Iraq. Total definitely over 1.3M. Pals. Pards. Brothers. Fathers. Uncles. Sons. Daughters. Nieces. Nephews. And on and on. All we can do is hope there's no more. One was a good friend of mine.
