Globe's clean E revs '09 $530B v. '08 $534B. China added 37GW clean E in '09, more than any other country. Globe's wind capacity up 32% '09, most yearly gain since '01, 1/3 of gain in China.
The stimulus (US) allocated $3B to state energy offices to spur clean E and efficiency. Year prior was $25M. By July of '10 ~7% spent: DOE's IG audit. G, too much change too fast? DOE had 7 employees to oversee and hired 13 more. Competitive bidding added 3-6 months to process. Thank God for that huh.
"Unconventional NG" - the shale NG I presume - could suppress clean E for a decade. Water, pollution issues. Could see sub-$6 NG for next decade.
Solar PV was 70% off-grid in '92. 95% on-grid in '08.
Wind now 4% of UK power, >5GW. About 1.3GW offshore, more than rest of world combined. Offshore still 3x times onshore cost. Goal for '20 13GW offshore.
After decade of delay, largest wind farm in US moving fwd @ Tehachapi/Mojave. $1B financing came forth in June. 3GW next 8 yrs. GE, Vestas.. Texas already 9.7 GW wind.
LED market forecasted to be 1/2 of $4.4B lighting market by '20.
NG is a $47B/yr export market for Canada. 3rd largest producer in world. West Can has 140tcf (trillion cubic feet) reservoir. But production rate has fallen with a 75% increase in wells. This year est. 29% production decline since '05. Does that sound good to you?
OPTT has the 1st wave energy device connect to grid in history in Hawaii.
EV charging industry est. $3B by '17.
Sumitomo has superconducting wire 50% better. High temp SC. Bismuth based. 200x copperwire. 1/3 cost savings over present SC.
Scotland going for 100% "renewable" E by '25.
Adobe installed 1.2MW of Bloom E's SOFCs at HQ on parking lot roofs because they are in a high-rise office building and didn't have space on the roof of the building. 1/3 less cost than grid.
