The 6 thousand year old empire of China today posted a plan for 50k tons/yr production capacity of polysilicon and 5GW/yr production capacity for solar cells by '15. Aiming to promote domestic solar energy and bolster their companies' competitive edge in global mart. They also plan to have 100GW of wind gen capacity connected to grid by '15. Sounds like the old empire likes clean energy.

U of IL researchers say they've developed new maize hybrid to produce 15-20% more biomass given same fertilizer as commercial hybrids. The hybrid a mix of tropical and temporate maize with increased drought resistance, sugars in stalk and pest and disease resistance. That's pretty darn good research I must say.

American Coalition of Ethanol says ethanol is saving consumers 7 to 10 cents at the pump. Well, there was that report yesterday that Iowa ethanol producers are losing 11 cents per gallon made. Huh.
