German scientists invented new coolant for EVs. Could allow tighter packing of batts, extended batt life, smaller coolant tanks. Mix of water, parrafin, anti-freeze and stabilization agent. Can absorb 3x as much heat as water. As fluid heats, parrafin melts and stores heat, solidifying again with cooling.

African countries to plant 4,300-mile line of trees in hopes of slowing desertification.

Shell's oil drilling vessel in Alaska slipped its mooring and nearly grounded. Shell asking EPA for easier air pollution regs for the rig. Greenpeace activists shut down some UK gas stations over the proposed drilling.

Welspun Energy, India's biggest solar developer, said India set to double its solar target. Welspun in last year signed onto building >1.5GW of solar and wind farms for ~$1.8B. Govt now has goal of 20GW solar by '22. India needs to add ~170GW of new elgen capac over next 5 yrs to maintain 9% GDP growth. GDP up 5.3% in Q1. Central El Auth plans to allow coal plants to import 50% of their coal needs. 30% now.

Cheneire Energy got $3.4B financing to build major LNG export facil in Louisiana.

EIA says if sanctions continue, Iran oil prod will fall to ~2.6mb/d by yearend and lose another 200kb/d in '13. Agency also reported global oil stockpiles are again growing, ~85% of growth in emerging nations. Global oil demand to increase ~800kb/d in '12, ~1mb/d more in '13.

US oil prod (all liquids) in May was 8.7mb/d, up ~720kb/d over last year. Shale oil (tight oil) prod costs $44-68/bl and selling at $10-$20 discount to WTI, so very close to breakeven or loss at latest prices.

Exxon started prod from phase 1 of Angola field, eventually expected to prod 100kb/d.

UK oil refinery shutting down because of Euro refining capac glut.
