STUFF

Things gleaned since 8/10:

China is shutting 2,000 of their worst polluting plants - steel, concrete, etc. Only in China can sense become rule.

The Atlantic is hotter now than before Katrina. And there's no record, going back 1,000 yrs, that matches Russia's latest hot spell.

Clovis, NM to be the site of a hub to unite all 3 US grids - East, West, Texas. Construction may start in '11 using underground superconducting cable (buy AMSC). Phase I $600M. Eventual capacity to move up to 30GW between grids.

Ford to power its EV-hybrid production lines with 500kW of solar.

China expected to build 1,000GW of el gen (current US gen) in next 15 yrs. Took us 100. Years.

Mongolia has over 6B barrels of oil, 100B metric tons coal, 60k met tons of U.

Tidal, wave energy: water 800X density of air.

Only 8% of the $2.7B DOE has awarded for energy efficiency has been spent.

Over 30 conventional coal plants have been built or are under construction in US since '08. Largest expansion in two decades. WHY?! Equivalent to 22M more cars on the roads. Dozens, though, have been stopped.
