More wind news:
Montana's largest utility made tentative agreement to buy 25MW wind energy from Compass Wind farm east of Great Falls. Could be running by end of '12.
A $180M wind farm cleared for development near Williams, AZ by Next Era Energy. Again, online in '12.
400MW wind project moving forward on Crow Creek Native Nation.
RWE starting a 2nd offshore wind farm in Italy with Vestas equipment. 26MW.

Sudan, China setting up solar panel factory in Sudan with $18M. China the largest foreign investor in Sudan, buys 2/3 of their oil (6.3B barrels reserves in South, expected to secede in '11, but the pipe runs through the North).

DOE's Idaho lab says they've developed a solar cell that can harvest IR (infrared radiation) as well as visible light. IR provides half the available energy in the spectrum. IR is re-emitted as heat by Earth after sundown.

Sandia lab created world's smallest battery with a single nanowire (anode). May enable discovery of what occurs inside Lith-ion storage devices, how they charge/discharge.

About 20% of 1T bls in Canadian oil sands is recoverable bitumen economically extractable with surface mining (with huge enviro impact).

SPWRA closed its over $250M bond issue for 44MW solar park in Italy.

Prudhoe Bay (Alaska North Slope) in 11% annual production decline rate. Brazil hopes to increase deepwater oil production from 1.4M bls per day in '09 to 3.5M by '20. US looks to maintain 1.2M from deepwater, only increased from 1M since '00. Ghana developing deepwater and Chevron developing off Liberia.

Enercon has installed world's first 7.5MW wind turbine in Germany.
