6 years ago, DOE pegged amount of "stranded" oil reserves in US oil fields at 374B barrels. Companies couldn't figure out how to get it out until recently. Originally the reserves were 582B bls. 43B recoverable now through CO2-enhanced recovery.

Cape Cod AFS to save $1M/yr in el bills with 2 wind turbines - 3.2Mw. AF goal 25% clean E by '25. 12-year payout on this project. $12M for 3.2Mw of wind power seems high to me, though. The number's are more around $2/w. Typical DOD?

Katana Summit likely to close wind tower manufacturing plants (2) in Washington state if buyers can't be found. Near 300 jobs.

AZ Public Service and McCarthy Building started permitting for 14Mw solar PV farm. APS' 6th AZ Sun Project. Program total goal 200Mw by '15. APS finances and owns.

Nexterra Systems and GE opened N Am's 1st commercial demo of renewable waste to energy combined heat and power system on U of BC Vancouver campus. 2Mw el, 3Mw equivalent of steam to replace 12% of NG use. BC contributed $7M.

Seattle City Light calling for proposals for up to 150Gwh of clean/ren E or clean/ren E creds per year starting in '20. SCL now using mostly hydropower.

2Q12 solar PV installs were 742Mw in US. Up 116% from last year. Utility installs 447Mw. Cumulative total 5.16Gw at quarter end. Near 250K systems. 3.2Gw more to be installed this year. Year total to be 71% over '11. Yet 81% of attack ads this election cycle target clean E. Oct issue of Consumer Reports to report on unethical, fraudulent practices in solar industry. Calling it 1 of biggest scams in history. Bottom line: bargain basement prices maybe in months ahead for solar stocks.
