GRAPHENE REPORT

Graphene a 1-atom thick sheet of carbon in hexagonic crystal lattice. 200x stronger than steel, tougher than diamond. World's thinnest material. Flexible, transparent, conducts el and heat very well. Stocks: AIXG, CVV, FCSMF, NGPHF, GTI, CHGI, PKX.

Swedish Energy Agency granted 60K Euros to Graphensic. Aims to produce single layer graphene on hexagonal silicon carbide for electronic equip market.

Japan's AIST, NIMS institutes developing new low-power graphene transistor. Charge movement can be controlled. Polarity can be reversed by el control.

Korea Inst of Science and Tech found way to easily produce graphene nanoplatelets from graphite. Grinding graphite with dry ball mill.

Xolve's tech can produce very pure, so very active graphene, other nanomaterials at low cost. They determine optimum solvents to tune solvent set for wide range of nanomaterials free of dispersants, oxygen or other molecules.

U of Manchester sandwiches graphene between boron nitride layers to produce highly accurate capacitors. Use quantum capacitance spectroscopy. Such capacitors could be cheaper, easier to make than current transistors.

Graphene Labs signed 2-yr strategic alliance with Lomiko Metals (Canada). To develop vertically-integrated supply chain. Lomiko samples will be used to test natural graphite to graphene conversion.

10-yr Europe graphene research program awarded 1B Euros. 74 partners. Graphenea (Spain) to be main graphene producer for project. Plan to expand their production 2,600x current capacity.

Bluestone Global Tech offering 24" x 300" roll of graphene film on copper.

Oxford U found new way of growing defect-free graphene using CVD. Random graphene flakes formed during CVD can be lined up by manipulating alignment of carbon atoms on relatively cheap copper foil. Copper surface acts as "guide".

Theoretical study from U of Puerto Rico says a bandgap can be opened in graphene using CH-Pi interactions. Can be further increased by sandwiching graphene between 2 C4H layers.

FUNgraphen joint research project has combined graphene with polymers. Suitable for plastic aps on kilogram scale.

Stanford researchers found single layer graphene ~100x more chem reactive than double or triple sheets.

U of Cambridge to establish new center for graphene research with over 12M Pounds from UK govt grant.

Graphene-CA research program to get 1B Euros over 10 yrs from EC. Led by Swedish physicist, over 130 research groups, 80 partners in 21 countries. To focus on developing graphene aps in computing, batteries, sensors.

Duke U developing ways to control crumpling, unfolding of large area graphene. Can lead to aps in health care, robotics, energy. Attach graphene to pre-stretched rubber film. Can be changed from transparent to opaque or reverse.

HEAD shipping graphene tennis rackets. $170-286.
