GRAPHENE REPORT

Graphene a 1-atom-thick sheet of carbon atoms in hexagonic crystal lattice. 200x stronger than steel. Tougher than diamond. World's thinnest material. Flexible, transparent. Conducts el and heat very well. Stocks: AIXG, CVV, FCSMF, NGPHF, GTI, CHGI, PKX.

Graphenea launched online store for graphene materials. CVD graphene films, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide. Also building distribution network. 50K cm2/y pilot production line, plan to expand that in '13. Customers include Nokia, Corning, Philips.

Stanford has total carbon solar cell. Entire panel can be built with coating process, can be made flexible. Electrodes made from graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes. Active layer made from buckyballs (which can also create graphene quantum dots).

XG Sciences and ORNL developing titanium-graphene composite using advanced powder metallurgy. Graphene raises titanium's low thermal conductivity. Collaboration gives XG capability to mass-produce graphene nanoplatelets in high volume.

Sharif U of Tech producing graphene-based materials (CeO2-TiO2) nanoparticles that absorb pollutants in water. Prepared in room temp ionic liquid on graphene nanosheets.

California Lithium Battery to commercialize its si-graphene (GEN3) anode material. When used with advanced cathode and electrolyte, increases energy density by 3x, specific anode capacity by 4x over existing lith-ion batts. Working with Argonne Lab.

Oxford U researchers developed high-precision approach to engineer graphene's atomic structure using electron microscope. Defects in graphene can make it stronger, more suitable as battery anode material, even help it transfer data.

Korea researchers showed single-layer graphene is excellent high-performance electromagnetic interference shield. Using CVD-synthesized graphene, 7x greater EMI shielding than gold film.

Vorbeck Materials completed 1st expansion in MD plant. VOR-ink capacity now over 40 tons/yr. On track for new MD plant - online late '13. Their volume pricing now 5x lower than silver inks, challenging graphite, amorphous carbon inks. 10x conductivity over competition, extreme flexibility.

MIT, ORNL developing graphene-based membrane to filter microscopic contaminants from water or for drug delivery. Tunability. Graphene sheet using CVD. But salts can flow through.

Brown U researchers designed world's best non-platinum catalyst based on cobalt-graphene. More durable, less expensive.
