Maricopa County, AZ approved Solar Reserve's 215Mw solar project. 150 Mw of SR's concentrated solar tech (molten salt heat storage), 65Mw PV solar. Still need power purchase agreement. Plan to send power to Cal.
LA Council approved Dept of Water and Power buying up to 250Mw from K Road Power's solar farm on tribal lands north of Vegas. Project completion 2H15. DWP has option to buy the plant.
Sun Ed (Cal) building 25Mw solar plant outside Tucson, online by month end. $100M cost. Another 34Mw farm nearby also online this month. Tucson El Power now has 6 solar plants in operation, total 22Mw. 5 projects in construction for 73Mw, another 64Mw to be built be end of '13.
US PV installs 1Q12 83% higher than 1Q11. 2Q12 115% higher than 2Q11.
FERC fined another comp - Gila River Power - for trying to manipulate Cal power market. $911K fine agreed to by Gila. 1st time anyone has admitted violating FERC's anti-manipulation rules. Gila sells power into S Cal from plant near Phoenix. Used manipulative bids to get higher prices for power.
Small modular nukes ~1/3 size of power plant reactors. Tech already implemented by US Navy. Units ~ $250M each v. reactors up to $9B each. (If that ain't game change, what is?)
~$17B of Canada oil sands assets up for sale. (US comps trying to get out.)
Est. recoverable shale gas reserves in Europe: 5T cubic meters (CM) in France; up to 2.3TCM in Germany; 1.18TCM in Ukraine; 538BCM in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary; 346-768BCM in Poland; 150BCM in UK, up to 1,000TCF more offshore; 120BCM in Lithuania. France has banned fracking. Temp bans, moratoriums in UK, Romania, Bulgaria.
