OPTT completed their first new-gen "utility-scale" (150kw) ocean wave power device, being prepared for trials off Scotland. A 2nd unit under construction for proposed trials off OR coast. Planned projects also for AU, JP.

An Italian company, Repsol, to explore Alaska North Slope for oil with 2 CO comps, the largest lease holders in AK - 750 sq.mi.. USGS says ~900M bls undiscovered oil in National Petro Reserve (unfortunately ~90% < the '02 estimate).

Tanzania plans to shut down major hydro plants, the country's main power source, due to severe drought.

The drought has eased in China's wheat belt from 7.5M hectares to 2.5M. 14M people were mobilized for irrigation.

New wells drilled so far this year in Barents, Norwegian and North Seas have come up dry.

JASO and WFR partnering up on solar cell production in China. Phase 1 250MW capacity, possible expansion to 1GW.

One quarter of China's constructed wind power is still not connected to the grid. 31GW on grid, almost 42GW built.

Transphorm unveiled their 1st product: gallium nitride diodes for power converters. 99% efficient. Transistor coming in a couple weeks.
