US likely to double solar elgen in '11 over '10. ~1.8GW will be installed. Tho only 252MW in Q1, 66% over '10. US share of global installs 5% in '10 to be ~9% in '10. Um, aren't we still ~20% of world econ? O yea, we always have republicans dragging our feet into the future. I forgot. Clean E (not including nuke) now ~10% of US elgen in '09 (latest EIA data). Hydro was 66% of it, wind 17%, solar .02%. Prices for residential systems fell slightly to $6.40/w from 4Q10. Commercial-sized systems fell 6% to $5.35/w. Utility systems were down 5% to $3.85/w. Production was 348MW in Q1, up 17% from 4Q10.

OPEC to rake in over $1T in crude revenues this year, assuming prices stay up where they are.

Compressed air remains far cheaper than batteries or other means for storing energy: EPRI. Others contend temp differences is cheapest way to go. Well, I say let's have a cook off. And then go with the cheapest way to go. If we can keep monied interests out of any govt decisions on it.

Speaking of that, I must say again we should have public financing of political campaigns. Let's start with the presidential race. Let's just see if that changes things for the better. I keep saying this and saying this and saying this again.

Senate voted 73-27 to elim 45 cent/gal tax credit for eth, 54 cent/gal tariff on imported eth. Both likely to expire end of year. Admin, tho, opposed to ending the subsidies now. Must be some campaign contributions involved. Another approach may be gradual redux.

Celanese planning to invest $700M in process to make eth from NG, coal.
